WHEN DID YOU START YOUR EXERCISE PROGRAM HERE AT NPPT?

June 2007

WHY DID YOU START EXERCISING?

I first participated in running 5 & 10 k’s, bike races, then triathlons for 10 years. I got vertigo and had to quit swimming, so my wife and I started running ½ marathons, and now I’m a competitive rower. I am fit to participate in those sports, but I was not functionally fit (i.e.: I always say that I have a better chance of getting hurt lifting my boat off the storage rack or loading my boat on top of my car than hurting myself rowing). How many times have you gotten a “twinge” in your back reaching into the back seat of your car to get something? In other words, I was not functionally fit. My “core” (the middle part of your body) was not strong. A good friend who owns a running shoe store told me about NPPT and suggested I go there and learn about “overall fitness,” fitness that I can carry over into everyday life.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT EXERCISE REGIME?

Currently I work with a trainer two times a week and participate in an Afterburn class three times a week. I really don’t think that I need to devote that much time to exercise, but I love it so much and I’m hooked on the good feeling that comes from my workouts that I want to just do it more and more.

WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?

I truly feel like I’m turning back the hands of time. I know how much better I feel and how much healthier I am, how the aches and pains that come with growing older and out of shape go away the more that I work out. I want to stay young for as long as I can.

North Point keeps changing the workouts and programs so I’m not doing the same thing all the time. Not only does this keep me enthused and motivated, the workouts never get stale and routine, plus I know I’m working different parts of my body in different ways all the time, which is fun and helpful in making me more fit.

HOW HAS WORKING WITH A NPPT TRAINER HELPED WITH YOUR SUCCESS?

I owe all my success to my trainer, Rebecca Pedrick. She is my inspiration. She cares and is concerned about doing everything in her power to help me achieve the goals we have put together. She puts together a variety of different programs, always changing things up so they don’t get boring or stale. She shows me the correct way to do the various exercises, she is there when I do them, making sure I do them the right way, and she encourages me to strive to do more, and compliments me when I do them well….I like that!!

WHAT ARE YOUR LONG-TERM GOALS WITH HEALTH AND FITNESS?

For me, it’s all about quality of life. I want to be as fit and healthy as I can for as long as I can. And I think the program I use at NPPT is the formula for me to achieve that. Plus, I am leaner than I have ever been in my life. I want to stay that way!

WHAT OTHER HELPFUL TIPS HAVE YOU LEARNED WHILE ON YOUR “JOURNEY”?

I take advantage of all North Point has to offer. The key to being fit and healthy is “diet and exercise.” I know you’ve heard that before but it’s the TRUTH. Pay very close attention to the food you eat. I worked with the dietitian at NPPT, Natalie, learned about my body and the foods I was eating, had my metabolism checked, and put together an eating plan, not a diet but a way of life regarding my eating.

And of course, I am consistent with my workout routine.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU OFFER TO OTHERS THAT ARE JUST BEGINNING THEIR EXERCISE PROGRAM?

Stick with it…….make a commitment (write it down) that you will be consistent and patient with your program…..you will see results, I guarantee it! It won’t happen overnight, but soon you will see the results and you will be so proud of yourself.

AND REMEMBER, AGE IS JUST A NUMBER!!!
